Iquitos / Nauta

Arrive in the Amazonian city of Iquitos where your guides will be expecting you. Set off in a comfortable private vehicle where you will receive a delectable lunchbox for the journey to Nauta.

Nauta, a small riverside town on the banks of the Marañon River, plays host to the Delfin I. Enjoy a VIP greeting at a private port where the vessel awaits. On board, sink into your cozy suite, followed by a casual happy hour. Bartenders serve exotic cocktails made with fresh regional fruits and pisco, the beloved national brandy liquor of Peru. Naturalist guides will give an overview of the journey ahead, the schedule, activities, route, and the wildlife to keep an eye out for. Settle into the ship for the evening, taking the opportunity to explore the three decks and bask in the fantastic panoramic views from the elegantly outfitted observation deck.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve: Amazon Park / Yanayacu Pucate / Nauta Caño

This morning, step into the Amazon Park to experience the unique Canopy Walkway, an experience unequaled in the rainforest. At a height of over 25 meters (85 feet) and extending for 500 meters (one-third of a mile), the Canopy Walkway provides a sweeping view of the rainforest from the treetops. There’s no better vantage point for observing the Amazon’s dramatic wildlife and vegetation. Suspended between 14 of the area’s largest rainforest trees, it is one of the longest canopy walkways in the world.

Afterward, you’ll be in Yanayacu Pucate, one of the best preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Guides will point out all of the biodiversity in the area, or dive right into the Amazonian waters where you may even have the opportunity to swim or paddle board alongside the famous pink dolphins. Afterwards, visit the remote indigenous village of San Regis where the local shaman, Carola, lives. Carola is known far and wide in the rainforest as a spiritual caretaker and healer to hundreds of jungle dwellers who travel for miles to see her. She is known as a “White” shaman, a healer and spiritual guide.

After a delicious lunch, visit Nauta Caño Creek for some kayaking or fish for the famous piranha.

This evening, guides will take you on a night safari in search of caiman alligators and birds only active under cover of darkness.

Pacaya Samiria National Reserve: Fundo Casual / Amazonas / Confluence of the Three Rivers

Rise early this morning to walk the Fundo Casual jungle trail, a hike that takes you deep into the rainforest where the animals are coming to life. The bountiful tropics always rewards early risers with the most abundant and active creatures.

Then, not far from Nauta, stop at the small village of Amazonas. Only 500 people live here but they welcome outsiders with smiling faces. Many are happy to demonstrate how to peel and grate cassava or the tools they use to process rice. See what it’s like in a day in the life of these local riverbank dwellers.

This afternoon, cross over the magnificently colored “Unión de los Ríos” or Confluence of Three Rivers where the Ucayali, Marañón, and Amazon River meet. Take in the spectacular sunset over the rainforest.

This evening, take an opportunity to stop into the Delfin I’s bridge. See the navigation systems, or chat with the captain. Then enjoy stargazing from the observation deck as the ship goes ever deeper into the rainforest.

Nauta / The Rescue & Rehabilitation Center of River Mammals (ACOBIA) / Iquitos / Lima
